A Great Machine!
First of all, the "bump-feed" head sucks like all of them do no matter what the brand (even Husqvarna) thus the 4 stars rather than 5. So be sure to get a universal quick-change head - Grass Gator, Pivotrim or whichever one you like. I like the 4-line push-n-load made by Shakespeare, it is a little challenging to figure out how to put it on unless you are fairly mechanically inclined (you have to follow their installation instructions for curved shaft trimmers with a little... more

Really Good Electric String Trimmer
I have had nothing but bad experiences with every electric string trimmer that I have ever purchased until this one. They have all been poor quality and ergonomically awful and uncomfortable to use.

This trimmer is by far the best design that I have found.

The design of this trimmer is exactly the same as is found with gas powered trimmers- the motor is at the end of the shaft to balance the cutting head and the shaft is straight, not curved. The overall result is a much better... more

Finally!
Finally someone has an electric string trimmer that acts like a gasoline trimmer. All the ones I have tried to use in the past were so weak it was futile. Maybe our grass is tougher here in S.E. Arizona, but they just did not cut it. (pun intended)

I have two ineffective electric trimmers in the barn that are worthless. This one really works and I am very happy with it. Due to a shoulder injury I can no longer start a gasoline string trimmer. Now I don't see that as a problem.

Thanks for... more

This Trimmer Is A Beast.
I got tired of using battery powered trimmers which would bog down and run out of power, and did not want a gas trimmer. I was amazed at what this trimmer can do. It has plenty of power, easy to operate, and the balance of weight is excellent. I never operated an electric trimmer that performed with this much ease and power. The trimmer is an absolute beast and well worth the money.
Pros: Durable, Light Weight, Exceeded Expectations, I'd Buy It Again
Cons: Bad Instructions

It Doesn't Use .080 Trim Line And Switch Design Not Good
It use .020 trim line not .080 as the vendor says, switch has bad design, it is a double effort to get it works steady and it hurts your hand..
Pros: Easy To Store
Cons: Bad Instructions, Heavy, Difficult To Use, Unreliable

Mario,
Mario,

This particular trimmer does call from .080 trimmer line and if this is not the case, please give us a call and we can discuss further. It could be possible the wrong line was added at the factory, but we would be happy to help in this case.

In terms of the switch design, this is something we can discuss as well if it is causing discomfort. You do have 30 days to return the product and you are within that time frame if you are unhappy with the trimmer. We would be glad to help in any matter you see fit. Our number is below.

Machine That Eats All
The trimmer is made of sound metal and should last me a long time. I think a shoulder strap should come with the trimmer, gets a little heavy after awhile and loves to eat up string. Still the best on the market for an electric trimmer.
Pros: High Quality, Easy To Use, Price, Exceeded Expectations
Cons: Heavy

Sandy's Experience
I have used this extensively since I purchased it. Great power and not too heavy. Only issue is it is too hard to hold down the two buttons top and bottom to keep the unit working. An on and off switch would be great - from my viewpoint. And of course the eternal problem of the advancing the string. But I have an acre and a third and have used this unit for 6 hours in a row and it does the job.
Pros: Fast, Re-design The Idea Of Holding Down The Two Start Buttons - Bad, Design, Design
Cons: Difficult To Use, Holding Buttons Down While Using Is Bad

Flawed But Still The Only Choice.
I went looking for electric trimmers because the vibration of my gas trimmer was a problem for me. The Greenworks 21142 was the largest diameter offered.

It has met my expectation of being as effective as my gas trimmer with less damage to my joints.

However as noted in other reviews, the trigger design is unacceptable. My analysis is that the holding force of both actuators is too stiff.

Some hysteresis would help (resulting in a safe actuation force transitioning to a lower holding... more
Pros: Quiet, Price, Light Weight, Effective
Cons: Difficult To Use, Trigger Design

Great Trimmer!
I bought this after fighting with trying to get a gas one running once again. Yes, getting out extension cords is a pain, but it really is less work than the time I spend trying to keep gas ones running, mixing gas, etc.

Believe me, this is as powerful as my gas trimmer. And if you run the .095 line it lasts forever. I changed the spool to a speed spool and that makes even line loading simple. The gas speed spools collar is a little deep, but with a little sanding to shorten it now works... more

The Learning Curve
I admit, the trimmer I had for years was much lighter and certainly not as powerful. The first time I used this trimmer I almost couldn't control it. POWER! It has taken me 4 trimming jobs to finally get a handle on how to move this trimmer. If you need a more powerful trimmer than this, you'll need to bring out the tractor.

The only drawback so far is the amount of line the spool holds. It runs out quickly, but then perhaps, it's my lack of experience with this trimmer and once I get a... more

High Quality, Extremely Difficult To Use
1. The shipped trimmer was damaged in shipment, crushing a main rubber cap covered tube. Using a brick layers round metal tool, I bent the tube back out just enough to fit in a second undamaged tube. The fault lies in Greenworks packaging, which had no internal packaging, so the parts smashed into each other during shipping.

2. The wheel holding trimmer string has a bottom plate with slots to hold trimmer string (when replacing trimmer string). Those slots are too big for the .080 inch... more

Fitst Impression
As I tried attaching the the front handle to the shaft I notice that the wing nut does not engage the bolt. I look at it closely and notice that it is not just stripped but totally deprived of threads. Fortunately I live in Florida and have lots of wing nuts that I use to fasten my hurricane shutters and these nuts are the same size as the handle bolt (1/4-20tpi) so lucky me. I hope this is only an indication of Chinese quality control and not an indication of things to come. I will reserve... more

Great Trimmer Except
When you need to advance the string, it does not "bump out" more line - I have to take it apart and unspool the amount needed. Double spool feed is tricky to reset properly. Other than that - it's a GREAT UNIT- VERY POWERFUL- more than my old gas trimmer!

Hate This Trimmer
Of all the lawn care products I have owned over the last 40 yrs I dislike this one the most. Part of the problem is my own fault because I should have made my selection based on other criteria. First, I really don't like the ccw rotation which is backwards from every gas powered trimmer I have owned. This is the first straight shaft trimmer I have owned and I don't like that compared to the curved shaft. It is very powerful, but since it is on/off there is no way to modulate the power and... more

Harold,
I am sorry to hear the string trimmer did not operate in the capacity you hoped it would. In comparison to older models, the operation is a bit different especially since it is an electric unit without the variable speeds. I apologize for our buyers guide not offering much more assistance in your selection, I will look into this and determine what can be added to offer better assistance when a representative is not available. We appreciate your feedback.

Greenworks Electric Trimmer
This is one of the best purchases I ever made. It cuts like a dream and is light weight. My son has a gas trimmer which is heavy and gives off lots of fumes. He comes by daily to try and convince me to give him my new trimmer. Guess I'll have to order one for him.
