Light And Nimble Machine, Easy To Use!
I own a Simplicity 1924E I bought 3yrs ago and it works great, but it is heavy and cumbersome. So when it came to looking for a snow blower for my 75yr old father, I needed something of the same size, but lighter and more nimble. I first looked at Troy-Bilt, but didn't care for the joy stick chute control nor the steel feet with only an edge that dragged across the driveway. Then I came across the Sears 88173. It was light weight, very easy to move around and I liked the chute adjusting handle... more
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Light Weight, Reliable

Craftsman Snow Blower 88173
I just bought this snow blower and have no complaints, starts right up with the electric start and blows through the 8" or so of snow we had. I would recommend to a friend or family member, little expensive but you get what you pay for.
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Reliable
Cons: Expensive

Very Easy To Use And Maneuver.
I bought my 88173 in November 2014. Couldn't be happier. It starts every time on first pull, electric start really not needed, and has performed well. Wet snow, no problem, 18'' deep snow, no problem, snow plow snow at end of driveway, no problem.

I heard and found that spraying a light coat of WD40 inside the intake and shoot, helps to keep the sticky wet snow from sticking. I also bought the extended skid shoes and battery operated light, and still walked away under $700. Awesome!

Good Product
This is the 3rd winter for my Craftsman. Does a good job clearing my walks and driveway.
Last year the clutch cable broke and I was not able to find one locally.Thank goodness for the internet.

I paid less than $400 for it at Sears.
I think MTD makes it for Sears.
Recommended.

Left Wheel Not Working
During the first winter after we purchased the product, we had difficulty starting the thrower. Sears fixed it.

This is the third winter, and the left wheel is not working. It doesn't turn, and while pushing the thrower, the tire came off. It's out of the warranty period.

I am not sure whether it's bad luck, but we have had numerous problems with this machine. The service department of Sears is not helpful either.

Brand Rep
Josh,
Josh, on behalf of Sears, I'm sorry for the trouble you are having with your Craftsman snow thrower. I'm sure our manufacturer would want to know why the wheel is not turning and how the tire came off. Feel free to Email me directly (Dean.Schwartz@searshc.com) and I'll have a manufacturer rep get in touch with you quickly!

So Far So Good.
This replaced Craftsman 22/5 I bought in 1985 which still runs but leaks gas and needed to be retired. First snow it worked well but I saw the necessity for the extended skids so I bought a pair.

Then the next snow came and I used it a night. I bought a headlight kit after that. I wish they made a 24" model with all the bells and whistles. I don't need a 26 and 22 is to small. The Cub Cadet 24 had all these options and was essentially the same MTD machine. I like the machine overall.

I Love My New Red Thunder
Newly purchased Craftsman snow blower and I love it. Easy to assemble. Rides smooth and removes the snow with power. Self propel is great.

It takes the struggle out of shoveling. So far, I am satisfied. This was worth the investment.

I recommend this to anyone and suggest purchasing the in-house warranty. This is a heavy piece of equipment to carry if repairs are needed. Other than that, this is a great buy.
