Q: We have 208 volt single phase wiring in our shop -- the result of splitting 3-phase wiring. Will the 230 v. 5hp Quincy motors run properly on this voltage? Are the motors provided by Quincy single wound or double wound?
by Marvin Fretwell from Arizona on February 05, 2013

A: This compressor must have 230V single phase power. Running it on 208V will cause the motor to burn up/fail prematurely. A buck boost transformer can be installed by your electrician to convert 208V to 230V power.
by Steve, Product Expert
Q: Having read the reviews of both the Quincy and IR units I am preparing to purchase the Quincy. Looking at accessories I see the IR unit has a 1/2" installation kit, would that be a good addition to the Quincy unit as well. Also, what all is provided with the unit to get it up and running on arrival. Thanks.
by Terry Martinson from Iowa on October 31, 2011

A: Since this is a 230V unit your electrician will need to wire it into your power system.

It comes with a 2 year factory warranty, but if you register the unit with Quincy and use their Maintenance Kit every year you can extend your factory warranty to 5 years!

Here is a link to the Maintenance Kit for this unit: Quincy Maintenance Kit 015.

You may want to consider an air distribution system to make the most of your new compressor. The MaxLine system is meant for larger compressors and buildings; here is the link to take a look: RapidAir MaxLine Air System.

It was a tough choice to slot Better and Best. Quincy has been around a while, too- since 1924. With that much practice, like our Better pick, you can get really good at building a quality product.

They both have high efficiency parts, are built for continuous duty, industrial use, and are ASME certified. And, both are built in the US of A.

What bumped Quincy into the top spot was the 50,000 hour- or more- pump life rating. You will spend more money up front, but in the long run (some... more

I Never Run Out Of Air
I have been in the market for a good quality air compressor for my woodshop and decided on this Quincy, and I am so glad I did.
I never run out of air, even when I am running my vacuum chuck on my lathe.

Other people have commented about the Square D pressure switch being to0 small- I thought the instructions were excellent. I ran a 10-3 cable and a 30 amp breaker, and it has worked very good. The highest amp pull I have registered is 22 amps, so a 30 amp breaker is sufficient.

30,000 Hours Not 50,000 As Stated
Beware, this compressor does not have a 50,000 hour pump as the description and 'expert' review state. Take a look at this picture, and you will see it is only 30,000. Talk to Quincy yourself. They will confirm this has been the case for at least 5 years.

Marc,
We build our website pages based on the promotional material we get from the manufacturers, then we ask the manufacturers to check the pages for accuracy. This one got past both of us.

Thank you for sending the correction to us- we'll update our pages right away!

The folks at Quincy tell us the other QT models are rated at 50,000 hours; the 2V41C60VC is considered an economy model, hence the shorter pump life.

Beat My Expectations
This is a very nice unit and has so far beat my expectations. This runs quiet for a unit of this size, just be sure to use vibration pads.

This was bought with the intention of using it primarily for media blasting. I'm currently running a 90 lb ALC media blaster and this compressor keeps up with no issues. It actually will shut off while I'm still blasting!

Over all very happy with the quality and overall look. Being made in the good ol USA helps too!
Pros: Quiet, Reliable, Fast
Cons: None At This Time

Runs My Air Hammers
I got this compressor about a month ago to run a variety of air hammers. These hammers eat up air from 8-15cfm, so I wanted something that could handle this.

When the compressor arrived I got it wired. The first time it turned on it cut out at the correct PSI, but shut itself off also. The second time I turned it on it kept going to 200psi as I watched it- and I turned it off. I drained the tank and tried again, this time I let it go until the relief valves popped open. So I knew those were... more

Beautiful Compressor
Read all the reviews then ordered this compressor on a Tuesday. I was waiting for confirmation that it shipped and it was delivered that Friday!

I had it delivered to work and took it home in my pick-up, then used a front end loader to get it off the truck. It's a beautiful compressor, excellent fit and finish no issues wiring. The pressure switch box SQ-D is a bit small but no big problem.

The instructions could be clearer for wiring (note 8 gauge wire 40 amp breaker ) Runs quiet.... more

Rough Start
I am enjoying the increased capacity of my new air compressor. However, we had a bit of a rough start.

The pressure switch that was installed on my unit was not included in the installation instructions. I had to go online and look at the instructions on the website to find my pressure switch. Once I got the compressor running, after a day or 2 the pressure switch failed to operate properly and the compressor ran for about 2 hours continuously blowing the pressure relief about every 5... more

Beware!
I bought this compressor over a IR and made a big mistake, the pump started to knock bad after 2 years. My father sold Quincy air compressors for 30 years that's why I went with this compressor.

Called Quincy service and they are rude and do not back up their products, think twice when buying this product, if you do have a problem they will not back it up.
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable

G.c.,
I didn't see an account for you in our database, so I can't tell if you got the Extended Factory Warranty on this unit. The regular Factory Warranty is for 1 year, and it can be extended to 3 years if you purchase the the oil change kits, register the warranty, and do the required maintenance.

If you'd like to contact Quincy directly to find a more polite Authorized Service location, just give them a call at (217) 277-0270 or use their Service Locator.

Good Ones Aren't Cheap And Cheap One Aren't Good.
Crating was better than expected.
Compressor fairly quiet
Came with ball valves and gauges--saves a couple $$$.
Moisture dump valve at bottom a very nice feature.
Wiring super simple.

About the only thing that ticked me off--- When I had previously seen these in other shops and at brick an mortar stores they had 4 feet/anchors at the base.
When I received mine there were only 3 feet. Obvious cost-cutting measure... may not be a big deal to most.. but SUBSTANTIALLY decreases the... more

Can't Beat The Performance
I wanted a more powerful compressor that would fill fast, have enough PSI pressure to run a 3/4 impact, be reasonably quiet, and recover quick enough so I didn't have to stand there and wait for it to catch up.

My new Quincy definitely fit the bill. It'll fill from 0 to 175psi in less than seven minutes, runs very quiet for its size and actually refilled to capacity while using an angle grinder to clean off gasket material.

The power cord/switch box is a little tight but I made it work.... more

Great Compressor
The delivery was on time without damage.

I hard wired it in to a 30 amp breaker checked the oil and turned it on. The pump came complete with the proper level of oil. The pump kicked on and took 6 min to pump from 0 psi. to 150 psi where I had set the pressure relief.

I then realized that the main air supply tube to the tank was loose. I tightened the fitting and the compressor sat for two weeks with no leaks. I was impressed that the compressor built pressure even with a completely... more

Quiet
Came crated well. Easy to hook up. And was exceptionally quiet. My last compressor lasted 23 years because of good maintenance. I'm hoping this will do the same. Would like to have received a parts manual with the new unit. Not so.
Pros: Quiet, I'd Buy It Again
Cons: No Oil Level Sight Glass

Herbert,
I checked the Quincy website for you and they do have a QT-5 Parts Manual available as a free download.

You can either click on the link above, or go to www.QuincyCompressors.com, click on "Download Literature", select "Search Type- Parts Books", and use QT as the keyword. There's quite a bit of other information available, too- including QT model Tear Down & Rebuild Instructions.
