Q: What is meant by "CARB", with respect to generators?

A: CARB is the California emissions requirements for generators to be shipped there. The units must meet strict requirements to be shipped to CA and they have special components like a spark arrester and evaporation canister which is why they cost more.

Q: Hi Jim I bought a Powermate PM0105007 - 5000 watt gas power electric generator from home depot. The engine is a RATO made in china. Am I going to be ok with this?

A: Yes, you should be find with this engine. Engines from China have been in the US for 8 - 9 years and have really had no major issues over the last 5 years and parts are typically accessible if needed.

The key is to do proper maintenance such as running the unit every week to every couple of weeks to keep the internals proper lubricated and prevent moisture build-up.

This also gives piece of mind knowing it is going to work when you need it.

Proper oil changes and using clean fresh fuel with a fuel stabilizer is extremely important.

Read the owner's manual from cover to cover as there is usually a ton of information that is extremely helpful.

 Great generator

Great little generator. It came 2 days early without a call in advance.

Easy assembly. I added oil & gas and it started right up. I have not needed to use it yet, but I'm glad it's there.
