Q: Will this work witb my Reliance Controls Protran 31406C transfer switch?
by Mike from New York on October 11, 2013

A: Thank you for your inquiry!

The Honeywell 6039-0, 7500 watt portable generator features a 30a 4-prong outlet. This L14-30R outlet will be compatible with your Reliance Controls, 31406C transfer switch.

Q: My question is very similar to Colleen's except my house is 3000sf. Want to power basically the same items. Obviously you have not been to my house to measure volts-etc, but can you just give me your kneejerk intuition about whether this is the right wattage range to be looking in? Thanks.
by Lauren from New Jersey on December 07, 2012

A: Thank you for visiting Electric Generators Direct. In regards to your question, the generator size is determined by the starting amperage load of the equipment you are planning on powering when you lose power. The starting amperage load will be much larger than the running load and proper calculations need to be done to properly size a unit. We recommend having a certified electrician do your wattage calculations as every home is different. The electrician would calculate with the following formula to properly size the generator which should be sized at 80% of its running capacity to allow enough flexibility to handle large intermittent loads and still keep voltage output at proper levels. (Starting Amps x Volts = Watts).

If you should have any other questions or comments, please contact us any time.

Q: Our house is 4500sf. We want emergency power for one refrigerator, one freezer, furnace, cable, and lights in some rooms. Is this the right product?
by Colleen from New Jersey on December 19, 2011

A: A 7500 watt emergency portable generator can power quite a few items in the home and is a great size for all applications with proper load management. You will want to calculate the wattage you will be using so you do not overload the generator.

To calculate wattage you use the following formula - Starting Amps x Volts = Watts and typically you will need to manage your loads and figure out what you can run at the same time.

It is always best to contact a certified electrician who can calculate your wattage and install the manual transfer switch to your electrical panel.

Solid Quality!
My Honeywell 7500W generator runs quieter than most others I've heard. The electric start is really convenient. It would have been nice if the starting battery would charge during operation without the need of an external AC plug-in charger. The Owner's Manual says the battery comes fully charged. But to be sure, I plugged in the charger for 48 hours before starting the first time.

In the event of a long power outage when the generator may need to be restarted a number of times, it's a good... more

Impressive Piece Of Equipment
I wanted a generator with electric start after being without power for 9 days following the Connecticut October snowstorm of 2011. My son had purchased a Honeywell 5500 watt recoil start generator and I was impressed with it, but this 7500 watt model is a *beast*. The frame is rugged and the handles and wheels make moving this 200+ lb brute as easy as moving a comparable load in a wheelbarrow.

This generator is way quieter than my old 5000w Coleman. It isn't whisper quiet, but it's more... more

This unit ran 24/7 for two weeks after Sandy.
It was a quick start and steady idle.
The gas tank could have been bigger but reliability factor made the difference.

Generator Review
This is the second Honeywell generator I purchased and have been very pleased with both of them. I needed to use the frirst one for 12 hours straight and it worked perfectly. It is also very easy to install the weels and legs. I would recomend these models to everyone.

It's A Good Generator But...
I bought the generator months before we were hit with a tornado and then a huge storm in Oct. 2011. The generator was a life saver for my family, and for neighbors and friends.

The generator itself works great, with the exception of the legs and rubber grommets that hold the generator up and in place are JUNK !! They are no match for the weight of the generator.

It was weeks without power. When my power was restored I let friends / family use the generator. So while transporting it in... more

Honeywell 7,500 Generator
Received generator in 3 days. Truck drivers used tailgate to unload generator even though I didn't choose tailgate service. Unit required assembly of wheel kit, connecting battery and adding included oil. Unit fired right up and seems to run well. I like three year consumer warranty.

I would like to add a volt meter. I was disappointed that the battery doesn't charge automatically from the generator but needs to be manually charged from included charger. I would like to see a more sturdy... more

Unit came via a huge 50 foot delivery truck. Delivered right into my garage for free. Opened the box and in ten minutes had it up and running. Not only is this thing a powerhouse it's a great looking unit. Started right up and has worked every time. A great value to me.

As Advertised & Reviewed
Delivery was seamless and delivered exactly where we requested. (Our gravel driveway is approximately 500 feet long uphill) Assembly, putting in oil and gas took no more than 20-30 minutes. Generator started right up. Since purchasing in October the unit has been test run several times. It is properly grounded and wired with a manual switch at the panel board by our electrician. We have decided to keep on hand two 5 gallon cans of gas with stabilizer added allowing approx 6mos life span on... more

More Power!
More power is always better, at least in my book! this generator, paired with a 10 circuit manual transfer switch, does everything I need, and has plenty of reserve according to the meters on the transfer switch.
Pros: Easy To Use, Price, Reliable, Easy To Start
Cons: Heavy

Honeywell 7500 Watt Generator
Overall the generator seems to be okay. I started it up when it first arrived and it seems to run fine. Although I bought the generator at a reasonable price and service was good I was disappointed to find out that the generator was made in China. I tried to buy a generator that was American made which was one of the main reasons I chose Honeywell. I knew they were made by Generac (another American Co.) but had no idea they were actually being made in China now. I could have purchased a... more
