Q: I have looked at this model at other sites and it showed it has low oil engine shut down. Does this one have that? Also would like to know how to find out if there any service centers in my area.
by Carol from Tennessee on February 25, 2014

A: This engine does have the low oil shut down feature.

I have included a link so that you can enter your zip code to find Generac Service Centers in your area. Just select "Power Washers Sales and Service" from the drop down menu.

Q: I looked at the spec sheet and the owner's manuals online but could not find the length of the 6024 hose.
by Andy from Pennsylvania on April 23, 2013

A: This model pressure washer comes with a 30ft high pressure hose.
by Mike, Product Expert

Q: What are the dimensions of this product when assembled? I see the dimensions you provide is unassembled. I have space considerations. Thank you
by Tony from Nevada on April 15, 2013

A: The assembled dimensions of this product are as follows:

-20 inches at the base of the machine from front to back
-16 1/2 inches wide from wheel to wheel
-42 inches tall from the ground up to the top of the handle
by Mike, Product Expert

Q: what is the fuel tank capacity on the Generac 6024?
by Bian from New Jersey on March 13, 2013

A: The 3000psi Power Washer, model 6024, has a fuel capacity of 3.2 quarts (approximately 0.8 gallons). The fuel capacity listed is the total interior volume for the fuel tank. Air space is required to allow for expansion of the gasoline during warmer temperatures, so the actual amount of gasoline in the tank may not reach a full 3.2 quarts (0.8 gallons).

by Mike, Product Expert

Q: I'm hoping that I can haul this in my pickup with canopy without having the lie it on its back or side. How tall is it to the top of the handle? The specs show 21" high which seems really low for what I'm seeing in the picture.
by Ron from Washington on February 20, 2013

A: The spec dimensions are the shipping dimensions. The product itself stands 40 1/2 inches high.
by Mike, Product Expert

Q: Who makes the engine?
by Mike on March 16, 2012

A: This model pressure washer uses a Generac branded engine. Generac makes their own engines for these pressure washer. The engine on this model is the same engine that is used on the Generac GP series generators that Generac offers.
by Mike, Product Expert

Q: what is the warranty breakdown . how long of a warranty on the pump?
by Nate on March 14, 2012

A: The Generac model 6024 comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty. The entire machine is covered under the warranty period. The only thing that is not covered under the warranty is normal wear and tear items such as the wheels and detergent tanks. Also, the seals in the pump are not covered under the warranty. Seals in a pump are never covered under a warranty though, regardless of brand.
by Mike, Product Expert

Q: Will this unit (Generac 6024) be too powerful for washing a car? Will one of the rotating brushes cut down on the pressure?

I am planning on using unit to clean siding and patio and thought washing cars would be a bonus.

by Scott from Maryland on September 27, 2011

A: For your applications, this is the perfect size pressure washer. This amount of psi is a little too much for washing a vehicle. However, if you use the white spray tip and make sure you stay at least 12 inches away from the vehicle's surface, you would be ok and not cause any damage to the surface.
by Mike, Product Expert

Q: Do you ship this item to Australia? If so, how much would shipping be?
by Jacque on March 31, 2011

A: Unfortunately we do not ship products outside of the U.S. Sorry, I would be unable to quote you on shipping this product to Australia.

Has To Go In For Warranty Work After 6 Months If Light Use
Bought for around the home, mostly light duty use. However, three months after use it started to give problems. It makes a surging/ sucking sound when on and idling every 30 seconds when warmed up. When cold, I have to wait about a minute of pressing the trigger on and off for something to "catch" so it can give me pressure.

Not happy with purchase. Thought Generac was more reliable than this. It has been six months and I have to look about taking it in for warranty work. I do not recommend!
Pros: Price, Easy To Store
Cons: Unreliable

Sanjeev,
There's a couple things you may want to check before taking it in for warranty- usually surging is a water supply issue.

It's important to squeeze the trigger and let the water run through the pump for about a minute BEFORE you start the engine. This drives all the air out of the pump, and prevents vapor lock (that's the waiting for "something to catch" part).

The other thing to check is your garden hose. Your Owner's Manual says the garden hose can be no longer than 50 feet; it should be at least 5/8" in diameter, and hooked up to city water to get enough water to your pump so it doesn't surge. If you have the garden hose wound very tightly on a reel it can also impede the flow of water. If your pressure washer pump is getting enough water it should run smoothly.

Please also make sure the filter screen where the garden hose attaches is free from grit & debris. Any blockage there will also cause your pump to surge.

If it turns out you do need warranty service, there are 3 Service Centers within 5 miles of your zip code. Just click on this Generac Service Centers link for their contact information.

Only Okay
I purchased this unit about 2 months ago. Price from Pressure Washer Direct (PWD) was good, and evaluations were good. My experience with this washer is at best okay.

First, when the washer was delivered there was damage. The plastic spray gun was busted and 3 of the tips were busted and the frame was bent. I called and emailed PWD and got a quick courteous and helpful response. They replaced the broken parts quickly and with minimum effort (a great customer service department).

Great Investment
We researched many power washers, looking for substantial power for a good price. We hit all the usual places & big home improvement stores and found they didn't have what we wanted. In fact their prices were all a bit higher.

So we opted for the Generac Model 6024 with 3100psi. The price was lower than the other local places and we got free shipping. The first pressure washer arrived damaged with the box saturated in oil. Seems the delivery company dropped it, twice! Returning it was... more

But PWD gets 5 stars for the way the dealt with the situation and quickly getting a replacement sent out."

Thoroughly Disgusted
I purchased this at the end of April, 2013. The pressure hose "burst" May 26, 2013 after approximately 3 hours of use. The unit hasn't had anything other than water put through it.

I took it to a Warranty shop as per Generac's instructions on May 28, 2013 where the repairman stated that it was obviously a defective hose, since the hose had an outward bulge in it. After many many calls I "STILL" do not have a replacement hose and the shop just keeps telling me Generac... more

Bill,
We apologize for the inconvenience! You may want to contact Generac directly, toll free, at (888) 436-3722 x5381. Please be sure to have the serial number of your unit, and the name and phone number of the person at the repair shop, handy when you call them. They should be able to expedite a hose to you.

The Factory Warranty on the pressure washer is through the folks at Generac and covers defect in manufacture and workmanship. Generac wants a hose failure to be inspected by one of their facilities, since hoses can burst from contact with a hot muffler or being kinked- which would not be covered.

So Far, So Good!
I researched on-line to see which pressure washer was best to fit my needs and decided on the Generac 3100.

The unit arrived in about 10 days and after a very simple assembly, added engine oil, fuel and connected the water supply. Two pulls on the start cord and it fired right up. I have used it 4 times and 3 of those times were for 4 or 5 hours of continuous use, stopping only for breaks and refueling.

This unit is set up for easy use and handling. It is a quality pressure washer and a... more

Curtis,
Adding Pump Saver was a very smart move- we would also suggest adding a Fuel Stabilizer to the gasoline if it's going to sit longer than a couple weeks. It will keep your carburetor from getting gummed up, so the engine starts easily whenever you need it.

Using a pump saver product and fuel stabilizer will help your pressure washer last a long time, and be ready whenever you need it!

Engine Dies When Wand Is Engaged
Yesterday was the first time I attempted to use my new power washer (I say attempted because I never got it to stay running). I followed all instructions - put in the required amount/type of oil, filled with clean fresh gasoline, and attached and turned on the water supply. The engine started without any problem but, within a few seconds after I engaged the wand, the engine died (as if I had turned the On/Off switch to Off).

I then restarted the engine (it started fine), then, in a few... more

Robert,
Your file shows an email we sent to you today saying: "Please remove the air filter and see if it is saturated with oil. UPS has been shipping the pressure washers on their side causing engine oil to soak the air filter element. The will reduce the amount of air necessary for the engine to run properly. If so, that would be what is causing the engine to not stay running. If you get a replacement air filter element locally, please email or fax (630-679-1846) us the receipt so we can reimburse directly to your credit card. Or we can also always replace the air filter directly if you could send us the serial # off of the pressure washer. "

Another thing you could try is to make sure that you squeeze the spray trigger before starting the engine, and let the water run for a couple minutes. This gets all the air out of the pump, and prevents vapor lock. Then release the spray gun trigger and try starting the engine.

If neither of these ideas helps, you still have a 2 year consumer use Factory Warranty, and can use the Service Center link at the bottom of our web site to find the Factory Service locations in your area. We recommend calling around to see which location has the quickest turn-around time.

Disappointment With The Hose
The machine itself is wonderful. The hose ruined the whole experience.

I had to buy a heavy duty hose within 2 hours of running the machine. The manual does tell you to watch out that the PVC (very, very cheap) hose does not make contact with the hot muffler. Well, that is a trick as the pump outlet is on the same side as the muffler and the PVC hose likes to move around due to it's memory from being coiled up.

Generac really made themselves look bad- first by including the cheap hose on... more

Rick,
We apologize for the inconvenience! All gas pressure washer manuals caution users to avoid hitting the hot muffler with any hose- it causes a weak spot that can burst, even if it doesn't burn through. It is not covered by Factory Warranty since it's not a defect (but sometimes a manufacturer will replace it in the first 90 days anyway... you might want to give them a call at (888) 436-3722 x5381 and see...)

A pressure washer this strong can easily handle a 3/8" hose- the quality is usually better in that size. We don't recommend going longer than twice the original length, so up to 50 feet won't noticeably reduce the pressure at the tip.

Good Price, If It Worked
The first I ordered, the frame was severely bent. It went back and I received the 2nd, the packaging was so mangled, I didn't open. The 3rd came and the fuel line was broken. The 4th came and it would run for about 5-10 minutes and shut down. Even going through this starting/stopping rotation for an hour, I also could not close the choke all the way without it shutting down. Yes, the engine was plenty hot. Since I oiled and fueled the machine, I couldn't send it back (After 4 of these, I... more
