Q: What size auger would I need for installing 2 inch steel fence posts for a chain link fence. They will be installed with concrete.
by Dave from New York on November 30, 2013

A: Dave,

Typically for a 2" metal fence post you would need a 6" auger bit. Check with local code for any conflictions to this, but I would say that this is standard.

Q: Does the engine require oil mixed with gas?
Earthquake E-43 auger

by Jim Gardner from South Carolina on June 20, 2013

A: Jim - the Earhquake E-43 earth auger has a 2-cycle engine, so yes, you do need to mix gas and oil together on this unit.

Great Tool For Roofing & Waterproofing Contractors
Earthquake Augers are a flexible tool that we use for mixing 55-gallon drums of material. Most liquid applied products have solids that settle to the bottom of the drums and are difficult to mix. We have found the E-43 invaluable in our operation since it does a fantastic job and one man can handle the mixing operation.

Works Good
Works good until you hit a rock. Better be ready to let go, or you'll go for a spin!

Earthquake 43cc One Man Auger
I purchased the E-43 Earthquake power head and 8" auger to dig fence post holes. Received both in a few days. I have dug 3 fence post holes with it so far. I found that it was a little hard to get it started. The temp was around 90 on the couple of days that I used it. Had to fiddle with the choke after pulling the starter cord a few dozen times. Eventually it started and worked fine.

No problems digging the holes. The ground is a bit sandy in the area that I live so that... more

Not For Deep Digging
I bought the auger thinking I could add extensions to dig a shallow well. First of all, the auger has a 7/8" shaft, so unless you intend to but the company's outrageously priced 2' extensions you will be making your own. 1" and 3/4" pipe will require welding skills.

Then I learned the clutch requires a two hour break in period. How long do you intend to drill post holes?

I decided to try to drill some holes. When the blade finally did start turning the grass wound around... more

Pretty Decent Auger
I bought this because I need to add onto the chicken coop, and need to replace my decks next year.

I just fired it up today and hooked up the 10" auger. After opening the auger up, I saw how huge it was. I thought it was overkill, and too much for that Earthquake.

It handled my first hole very well. There is very hard and rocky soil on my property, so I will have to invest in a good spudbar and a manual post hole digger to keep the rocks broken up. It is much better than the manual... more
