Q: What is the difference between the RT65 and the RT65CC?
by Nicola from Michigan on May 27, 2013

A: Nicola,

The RT65CC has a Cub Cadet engine and the RT65 has a Honda Engine.

The CC stands for Cub Cadet.
by Robert, Product Expert

Q: Hello,

Are there other attachments that can be used with this tiller? Perhaps a hiller/furrower?

Thank you!

by Katie from Vermont on February 11, 2013

A: Katie - sorry, but Cub Cadet no longer offers a hiller/furrower for their rear tine tillers. They did, but they dropped it from their offering a year or two ago.
by Robert, Product Expert

Q: What size wheels does the cub cadet rt65 tiller have
by Wendell Kratz from Arkansas on February 08, 2013

A: Wendell - the Cub Cadet RT65 series tillers have a 16-inch pneumatic ag tread tire.
by Robert, Product Expert

Q: Does the RT 65 have a chain drive tranamission or gear to gear driven
by Tim from Michigan on February 07, 2013

A: Tim,

The RT65 has a belt driven transmission. You may look at the Troy-Bilt tillers for gear driven transmissions. The following link shows you our rear tine Troy-Bilt tillers.

What A Machine
Easy to assemble. Started right up and tilled 3,600 square feet of garden in one hour. Two weeks later, re-tilled. Soil is fine and ready for planting. Before I had to rent a tiller, it was never perfect, was heavy and hard to maneuver.

Problem now is we will be adding more flower and vegetable gardens.

Weak Metal
First day I used it in my previously tilled garden, it came upon a rock... (a foreign object according to cub cadet), and may of temporarily got stuck, but it bent the main plate that the tines attach to. This caused the tines to cut into the center part of the deck body. I have used tillers for over 20 years and never have seen a tine or plate get bent before, and this is by far the most expensive I have ever owned.

Cub Cadet was not willing to back their product for anything but... more

Jerry,
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with Cub Cadet right off the bat. That tiller has a 3 year manufacturer's warranty but they see this as user error or at least something other than their defect. I don't have any authority over Cub Cadet who is owned by MTD but you may contact their headquarters at 877-282-8684.

In case you need to replace your tiller we carry almost two dozen models from six manufacturers.

Not Durable Or Tough.
I bought a RT65 with Honda engine. First time out a small 2-1/2 inch rock caught between left outside tine and bottom of cowling. It totally destroyed the gearbox. The shear pin broke, but not enough to prevent damage (maybe broken chain that got caught up in the works).

So far, $162 in just parts alone. The company (CUB, MTD Canada) refused to cover the damage. DO NOT get this tiller if you have any rocks of even small size in the garden! Only till in sandy soil. RT tillers are... more

Awesome Tiller
This is by far the best and easiest tiller I have ever used, I broke ground this year and added 30 feet by 30 feet to my garden and this Cub went through the virgin soil like butter, not to mention how easy it went through the old garden, you will not be disappointed at all with this one. The only down side is it can be a little hard to shift once in a while, but it always goes in gear.

Tilling Made Easier
Quick starting, easy to maneuver.

I have now tilled about 2500 sq. ft. Breaking the soil was easier, and finishing tilling was simple. The gardens look great.

I have a respiratory problem, however, this tiller has been easy to use.

When I was in retail as a manager selling lawn and garden equipment, I was able to use several front and rear tine tillers. This one has the power, and ease of handling compared to several other brands.

It's A Beast! It Broke 10,000 Sq Ft Of New Ground On 1 Tank
My lawn went to "meadow" and that includes some very woody plants. The area was clear-cut this summer, and this fall I decided to turn it under to replant.

So far I have run the tiller one time over the whole area to a depth of 3". There are a ton of hard roots and "stumps" to remove, as well as a few rocks. Then another pass to full depth.

The tiller eats the old sod and weedy material no problem at all -- like it's not even there.

The tree roots &... more

"Ordered, Shipped & Delivered as promised! Now if only I could turn off all the "Machines-" Direct ads I've been seeing while I web-surf. Nothing personal folks, and it's really not your fault. Google is now *WASTING* your advertising dollars and my time, by serving up the machine I bought on every web page I browse. I recall a scene from the movie Dave, where the government is proposing spending millions of dollars to make the purchasers of cars "feel good" about the car they already purchased. It didn't make sense to the protagonist character either. I recommend them for all your machinery needs!!!"

When It Breaks, Sell It For Scrap
Repair shop said that any fiber material (like grass roots) will blow out the wheel seals. The transmission case joint seals also leaked. The whole transmission rusted up. Repair estimate was more than a new tiller. Bad design because 100% dis-assembly is needed for transmission repair.

Powerful, But Takes Some Strength
I was able to till previous (twenty + years) pasture and make very nice, well broken soil. It is important not to rush the process - a couple passes at shallow depth, then a couple more at each increasing depth.

This is not a tiller for the weak - but it is the weight which makes it work well, The large tires were the best on any I looked at, and it drove through any soil type.

It should be noted that having extra shear pins is highly recommended - I've broken two (on hidden Michigan... more

Workhorse
Engine always starts the first pull and runs like a champ. Everything about the machine is heavy duty, with the exception of the side panels which keep the tilled dirt within the row. They get busted off early in the process by any large rocks in your path. If you are tilling an established garden, you'll be OK. If virgin soil, look for issues.
Pros: Easy To Use, I'd Buy It Again
