I Hated This Saw
I hated this saw. Using it was a constant hassle-- needed to work on it every five minutes of use literally. The gas cap doesn't let adequate air in through the little bleeder vent-- need to unscrew the cap every five minutes or so-- you can hear the vacuum suck as air comes in, which in turn allow the fuel to flow for another five minutes. I needed pliers to open and close the fuel cap each time-- ridiculous! Finally, the tensioner is terrible-- you'll need to constantly re-tighten it... more

Mark,
We don't carry Craftsman but I'm sorry to hear about the poor performance of your saw. A nice step up would be the Husqvarna 240 (16") 38cc Gas Chainsaw. It weighs 12.5lbs and comes with a 2 year warranty.

Gives Chainsaws A Bad Name
Do NOT buy this chainsaw. In fact, don't even go near it. If you're lucky enough to get the chain to stay on for more than 10 seconds (I'm serious), then be prepared to stop the engine every five minutes to tighten the chain using a tightening system that is, to put it mildly, under-engineered. I will say this for it: The engine is easy to start. Without a chain, however, it's of little value.

Lemon from day one.
Came out of box with chain on backwards.
Had to adjust carburetor to get to start.
Later found cylinder shield had cut plug wire insulation when put on at factory.
Had to file threads on gas cap to tighten without leaking.
Chain will not stay adjusted and jumps off if not adjusted every few minutes of use.
Engine still wants to die when returned to idle after a hard cut.

Disappointing
Same problem as the other David. It was hard to install gas cap and also hard to keep the chain tight.

Fuel Cap Not So Tight
Many are finding it difficult to remove or tighten a fuel cap. I found the problem to be in the fuel. Alcohol in the fuel causes the plastic cap to swell. Try emptying the fuel after each usage and leaving the cap hanging free to dry.
