Q: Josh, thanks for getting back to me. So this would plug right into the generator 3 prong and go thru my kitchen window. I would plug in refrigerator direct. Then run another cord off one of the prongs to the basement sump pump and one upstairs for electric or heater. Can I use just a standard cord I use for hedge trimmer. Orange, but certainly not of the quality of the 1659. Or should I use all 20 AMP cords?
by Chuck Bollinger from New Jersey on October 02, 2013

A: Thank you for your inquiry!

When providing emergency back-up power in the manner which you've described, it is important for you to ensure that the cords being used will support the required amperage of each device. If any of the desired items can consume up to 20 amps, then use a 20 amp cord. While it may not be required for you to use a 20-amp cord for each device, it would be wise to have the described appliances on at least 15 amp extension cords as they each draw considerable loads. This will allow the current to be carried much more efficiently than it would on a poor quality power cord with minimal voltage drop. By using a heavier gauge power cord, the heat buildup within the cord will be minimized.

Q: I have a motor home with a 4kw Onan generator - 3-prong 30 amp. Looking for convenience cord with male end TT30P for emergency power in house. Do you have about a 35 ft with multiple outlet ends like the B&S or Powermate convenience cord? Would I have to buy a separate adapter?
by Gary from California on March 23, 2011

A: We do not carry any 30A 3-prong convenience cords with separate end connections, only models with a gang box and 4 outlets. See link for available lengths (description lists 3-prong models)

Briggs & Stratton 20-amp Extenda Panel (4-prong) Review
I own this cord and it is so very convenient. It's the only cord leading into my home meaning less tangled messes! It's very durable and long enough to reach my second story where it enters my window. I live in Florida and in 2004, I had to use it twice when the power went out for 3 days each time! A worthy investment!
