Q: Ariens Snowblower: What is the difference between the Hydro Pro and ST28DLE snowblowesr? Is one any better than the other? Is $400 better?
by Russell from California on October 07, 2013

A: The only difference in these models is going to be the drive system. The units are identical except the ST28DLE is going to be the old standard friction disc drive system. The Hydro Pro is exactly that, it would use a hydrostatic transmission as opposed to the friction disc. The hydrostatic is going to cost more because it is a fluid driven system which typically reduces stress and more importantly on a snow blower is offers a smooth drive which puts less stress on the end user.

Q: hello, I will be purchasing Ariens Professional ST28DLE 28 420cc TwoStage Snow Blower from your website and I am wondering does it come with oil in engine? does gear case come filled with proper oil? Will this item still be shipping out Aug. 29? thank you for your time and I look forward to doing business with you.
steve

by Steve Tyler from Massachusetts on August 27, 2013

A: Steve,

You have chosen pretty much the best blower we offer. There is no oil in the engine but the blower may come with a bottle of oil. You will need to have oil on hand anyway because the first scheduled oil change is usually after only 2 hours of use. Any oil found in the engine is leftover from the test run at Ariens' factory.

The gear case is filled with the correct amount of oil at the factory. Ariens recommends checking the oil level every 25 hours or once every season.

IMPORTANT:
Use only Ariens L-3 synthetic
severe duty gear lube (Part Number
00068800)

This blower should ship out of Chicago 8/26 or 8/27/2013. Please send me any other questions that come up.

Q: Do I have to buy the Pro model in the Ariens line to get the auto traction assist (diferential lock)? Thanks...
by Dave from Massachusetts on September 21, 2011

A: Dave,

You would not have to purchase correct a Pro model from Ariens. You also have this option in the Ariens Platinum Deluxe models as well.

This Thing Is A Moose.
I decided to sell my truck and plow after having plows for the last 30 years here in up-state NY. I have a very old Ariens snow blower from around 1975. It still works OK but I've only used it for the walkway and patio and to cut some trails in the back yard so the dog can run and do her business. I did a lot of research before I decided on the Ariens Por 28". Ordered it on line and it shipped in a day or two. There was a little delay by the trucking company because I'm in a very rural... more

Very Powerful
Got Ariens Pro 28" last year, only used it twice, and both times accumulation was less than 6 inches. Last week we got over two feet of snow and I was thrilled to have this bad boy in my garage.

Cut through the snow like butter, including the 4-5 foot pile of snow and ice the plow left at the bottom of my driveway. Throws snow wherever you want, easy to maneuver and runs like a champ. I guess it's a bit pricey, but worth every penny when there is a big snow storm.

Ariens 28" Professional
I am very happy with purchase. Snow Blowers Direct is a great outfit. The extra charge for lift gate is a must, unless you own a fork lift--upwards of 300 lbs. The delivery guy was wonderful. I recently built a ramp into my barn/workshop and he wheeled it right up the ramp in front of my work bench, certainly did not have to do that.

Machine appears well made and it took about an hour to put together, not difficult, but I watched a couple UTUBE videos in advance. I made two errors, my fault... more

Snow Blowers Direct is great to deal with and very competitive on prices. Ariens is by far the best when it comes to snow blowers. Well built and tough.

Not For The Faint At Heart
SnowBlowersDirect.Com was right on the money to get me set up with a 926038. When they say the delivery will be on Thursday, buddy, it will be. My unit went from IL to WV, and there they transferred it to another trucking outfit who KNEW IN THEIR HEART not to ship it down to Eastern KY on a 53-foot Tractor/Trailer combo rig, 'cause I will tell you, I know NOBODY who lives in a place a tractor trailer can get to. So they repacked it on a straight job and got 'er down here 2 days after the... more

"Originally I was looking for a Toro 28, "size 11." But when I called SBD, the YL on the horn said they were fresh out, and, "Why'n the Hell you need such a big unit fer?" So I told her about Eastern KY (mountains), and she asked if I would consider an alternative, and that Ariens was made in the USA. She tried to sell me a 264cc, but that's too small a motor, and then we went with the 926038, (420cc). I told her I was looking at two feet of snow from my door to the Bronx, and how fast could she get one here and she said "Thursday," and she wasn't lying. It took some traking to keep my eye on it, because I know every other hillbilly around here's got their eye on it, like a stagecoach full of gold going through the badlands.... Thursday it was, by gum, and right after lunch. Backed right up to the door and tailgated it right into the machine shop, and helped yank the pallet, too."

Beast Mode
Although I've only used this machine twice so far, I can say it is by far the nicest snowblower I've ever used. It's almost as though you're actually happy to be clearing snow. Heated hand grips work great, as does the auto steer feature, and the electric start.

Fires up with ease and is ready to perform in seconds. My driveway is approximately 300 feet long with a parking area that can easily accommodate 12 vehicles, and it takes me less than one hour to completely remove the snow from the... more

Do Your Homework!
For thirty years, I either shoveled to keep in shape or used a snow thrower to assist. When I bought my house in 2007 I realized shoveling a 175' driveway was not going to have much appeal.

I did my homework and found that Ariens model 926038 could handle anything Mother Nature throws at us. Now, I do my driveway and the sidewalks in less than 20 minutes with ease.

This machine by far is the machine for a homeowner due to its durability and relentless power. I pull to start and not once... more

Blows Everything Away ---------
To start off, this is my 3rd snowblower. My first one is an electric Black and Decker - used it for one season and gave it away. Then I got a 24" 5.5hp 2 stage from Sears 5 years ago (about $600). It works fine, only problem is with wet snow, always got jammed and stuck. Both blowers are for use at my house. So, I am not a newb. Now I have a small office building myself. I need something powerful enough to clean my 14 cars packing lot, darn long driveway and sidewalk.

Found Snow... more

Snow Monster
I live high on the East bench of Salt Lake City / Bountiful. I have a long and quite steep driveway. When I moved in my neighbors recommended I buy the best snow thrower I could find. After extensive research I decided on this one. Here are my thoughts:

Pros:
-Made in the USA
-Quality: This thing is built like a tank and appears to be over-engineered in a lot of areas. There is nothing that looks or feels cheap about this machine, and I expect it will be around for a long time.

Powerful Blower For Deep And Heavy Snow
I ran a Snapper 8HP for 16 years on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. A basic, durable, reliable machine that was used heavily until it basically wore out.

I decided to up the horsepower and purchased the 28" 420cc Ariens Pro Model. The machine has exceptional power. Our snowfalls are measured in feet, not inches, of heavy, dense, often wet snow. With even the most powerful motors, 1/3 and 1/2 box wide passes at the lowest forward speed is required to maintain engine RPM's.

The Beast
I purchased the Ariens Professional ST28DLE (28") 420cc Two-Stage Snow Blower in Aug of 2012. I took advantage of the discounts. I had a Track MTD for 20 years and work well but slow. I just figured it was time to upgrade.

I did a lot research and settled on Ariens Professional ST28DLE (28") 420cc. I am so glad I did because the Ariens machine is a 10 times better machine than what I had before.

It is December now of 2012 and we have had 15 inches of snow one weekend, and... more
